Okay, IDK if this is accurate, but I loved how Mikey went to Pete's place because he knew he needed a friend, but not ANY friend, he needed Mikey. Not only because of the epic-if-short-lived romance they shared, but because it seems to me that Mikey is the one person outside his band that truly gets him. And the best part is that they don't even need to talk about it, they've learned to read each other perfectly, and sometimes that kind of connection is even better without words.
I can't stress enough how much I love the way you write their wives, because you make it pretty obvious that they know how much these boys mean to each other, and they also know that nobody, not even them can give Pete and Mikey what they get when they're with each other. And I'm not even talking about the sex. It's the sense of comfort and familiarity mixed with longing and a little bit of nostalgia.
One thing I absolutely adore about both this and the other Pete/Mikey reunion ficlet that you wrote, is the fact that they slowly become the persons they were when they were together. Both of them have changed, and both of them for better. And yet when they see each other after all these years it's like 2005 all over again. Not in a deja-vu sort of way, but more like in a memory muscle kind of way.
You never tell us if they believe there'll be another time, another chance to become PeteandMikey, but it's never felt to me like they're saying good bye all over again, so I choose to believe that there'll be another time where one of them will need the other and they'll be together again. Maybe that's how their lives will be forever, and maybe that's the only way they could REALLY work together: a love that turned into friendship, and a friendship that sometimes needs to turn back into love. But you definitely said it better than me: Sometimes things end. But that doesn't mean they're over.
God, those 2 made me so invested in their feelings and emotions, that I almost forget to comment about the sex (blasphemy, I KNOW). It was incredibly hot, but it's you so that's a given. But it was also desperate in a sweet kind of way, and so intimate and so THEM. The fact that Pete let Mikey do something that they've never done, not even when they were together just made my heart melt. I don't know if it was because he got caught up in the moment, or because he trusts Mikey more than he did when they were a couple, or because he was going through such a hard and confusing time and he just needed more, or because he wanted to keep feeling Mikey after he'd leave, like a reminder that, like you said, it wasn't over. It really doesn't matter, it was amazing.
I don't know how you do it woman, but I definitely know that I want you to keep doing it forever. ♥
