Fox. FOX. YOU WROTE BOB PORN. PORN. WITH BOB ON IT. BOB, WHO'S MY FAVORITE EVER, AND YOUR PORN, WHICH IS MY FAVORITE EVER. TOGETHER. OMG why Rachael's birthday happens just once a year, WHY???
Okay, the level of hotness of the porn is a given, there's a reason why you're the Queen of Porn. But, but, YOUR BOB'S VOICE, FOX! It's ten shades of PERFECT. Bob's doing something he loves, which is doing sound for an amazing band. However, life on tour it's lonely, especially for the crew. He doesn't get the fans' applause and adoration; and even if the band treats him as one of them, he just knows he's not. And okay, I know you didn't say any of this in your story, and I know that I'm mixing reality with fiction; but your Bob was so similar to how I think Bob The Sound Guy was IRL (which, okay, comes from my own personal tinhat but whatever), that when I was reading, I couldn't help but to think that the Bob in your story not only felt lonely, but also frustrated. Frustrated because, while he loves doing sound, he loves drumming more. And he has to make someone else's drumming sound good, night after night, wishing it was him who was on stage.
His love life pretty much revolves around a guy who he barely gets to see; a guy that is a hooker, that sleeps with Bob because it's his JOB. You have no idea how much it broke my heart (and got me hot, because that's how I roll) the fact that he was so eager to mark Ryan; that he liked Ryan enough to WANT to mark him, but not be able to do it because Ryan's not HIS. He has to be careful, he has to remind himself over and over again that, even if it looks like it, Ryan's only doing it because he was paid to do it, not because he really wanted to. I adored how his possessiveness towards Ryan was mixed with a stronge urge to protect him, even from Bob himself. So he never let go, and was always cautious and considerate, because he didn't want to take more than he deserve to.
I loved how, even when Bob was aware that he wasn't someone special to Ryan, he gave himself permission to pretend, just a little. How he took comfort on the fact that Ryan got hard with him, that he let himself smile in front of Bob (a real smile, not just a smirk). I loved how he paid attention to every facial expression Ryan made, every touch, every movement, anything that might mean that maybe, just maybe, he actually enjoyed being with Bob.
I also loved how Ryan was obviously paying attention too; he KNEW Bob was restraining himself, he knew that Bob wanted to take a little bit more than he usually took, and not only he let Bob marked him, but he marked Bob, too. For me, that was stronger and more significant than empty words and half-assed promises. To me, it meant 'TONIGHT you're mine, and I'm yours'. Not only gorgeous (and hot), but realistic, too.
You have no idea how glad I am that you ended the fic the way you did. You didn't describe us the rest of the night; but it didn't seem like they agreed on keep seeing each other after that night, and I thank you for that. Bob was Ryan's favorite john, sure. But Ryan had plans, and dreams, and, as sad as it make me (because I don't like a sad Bob), Bob had no place in that new life, at least not at that moment.
We know that Ryan's band WILL make it, and that Bob will be on a band too, and that a relationship is possible for them in the future. In your story, however, they don't know that. For all they know, Ryan's band might not make it. Bob doesn't see drumming as a possibility. So, right then and there, having that night be their last night together was what made sense. Even if it broke my heart that Bob's only consolation is that, even when he won't get to see Ryan again, or have him like that again, at least he doesn't have to worry about Ryan because he'll be fine. Bob has his memories, and that may not be enough or even begin to compare to the real deal, but at least is something. At least, for one night, Ryan was HIS. Not because he had to, but because he wanted to. And now Ryan will be safe, and chasing his dream, and, loneliness aside, yeah, Bob will be fine. ;__;
