Let's see if I can explain myself on this one: I've read a lot of fics about musician!Pete. On some of those fics, Pete is also a businessman (much like IRL). However, I've always believed that Pete's not the same when he's being FOB's bassist than when he's being a businessman. Just like I don't think Gerard is the same when he's being MCR's lead singer than when he's being a comic writer. This is the first time that I've read Pete in a characterization that makes sense with his businessman's persona. This is EXACTLY how I picture Pete to be when he's dealing with Clandestine/Decaydance/FBR stuff. He's wicked smart, and has vision, and it's still a little bit crazy, but not in a way that makes you want to hug him or pity him or even roll your eyes at him (well, not much, at least). He knows he has charm, and he's not afraid to use it. He knows he can be one hell of a sweet talker, and he knows that that's a very valuable skill to have in the movie business. Pete is obviously so much more than just a fucked-up guy, so much more than a troubled soul; he's also talented at what he does. After all, you can't build empires in just crazyness alone, right?
But then, Patrick appeared. Patrick, who can't be characterized as anything but a GENIUS, because that's what he is. Well, obviously not in the movie industry, but you get my point. And yes, you wouldn't know it just by looking at him, so of course Pete had no idea of how to deal with him at first. I adored their dynamics all throughout the story. How hesitant Patrick was at first, and then THE STRUGGLING. Because Patrick's used to see the bigger picture, so he knew that things weren't meant to be between them, no matter how much they both wanted it. I loved that, after Pete went to Patrick's house, he didn't kept pushing. He waited until he had a solution for them, until his argument was stronger than "who cares if you're studio and I'm a producer, let's be together anyway." He waited until he could offer Patrick not only a relationship, but also a job that, if not as well-paid as his current one, then at least more fulfilling. I think Pete knew that Patrick was on their side when he warned them about The Maddens not because he was fond of the crew (or Pete), but because Patrick actually believed that studios shouldn't interfere to the point where the core of a project is lost in favor of making more money. I'm sure that Patrick had seen many movies getting ruined by the studios to be disgusted by it. So obviously Pete knew that Patrick was passionate about movies, not just the money-making part of them.
I loved Bob (are you surprised?), and Ryan (especially his rant about how doing personal things for Pete WAS DEMEANING AND TOTALLY NOT HIS JOB) and Brian (I loved how he was able to communicate perfectly what he expected out of the relationship without sounding cheesy or over-emotional or clingy or possessive).
I won't even talk about the porn, because you already know what I think about the porn you write. I'll leave the porn-comments for PWP's.
I'm in awe of your talent; this wasn't like many feel-good fics that you love when you read them but then forget eventually. This one will be remembered and reccomended over the years. You'll see.
