You Can Do It! A Mix To Up Your Word Count

So at 10:30pm on November 1 I decided I was going to try to do NaNoWriMo this year. Because I make all my important decisions at the LAST FUCKING MINUTE. I am completely unprepared (character outlines? plot points? WHAT?) and I am writing a story based around a musical playlist (not this one. Ha.)

Obviously when one is scrambling to get one's word-count up, one needs a mix, full of motivational "I am a literary WARRIOR" type of music. And also some power ballads so you can pretend you are in an 80's movie montage WRITING YOUR HEART OUT. Possibly in SLOW MOTION. Or no, rather, FAST MOTION. Yes, that would be better.

To all my fellow NaNo-ers, and in fact, ANYONE writing a story for a challenge, or anyone who just finds that writing a story IS a challenge, I give you this mix:

Hee, this should be fun! I love that you have Words in there, A++ choice even though I never thought about it like that.

Nano is going well wordcount wise, but I've already hit the week 2 stage where I hate my novel and want to forget about it. As far as quality goes I think it's one of my worst efforts ever. I did short stories last year and that was way easier and now everything is HARD. Like I had a great concept but I feel like I'm ruining my own brilliant idea by writing it so badly.

And I keep accidentally switching between first person and third person, but at least that's *reasonably* easy to fix in the edits.

Ahahahaa I think I got that from one of your mixes in the first place. I wanted to use ALL the songs about WORDS, you know?

I'm glad you're doing well on wordcount. I'm already completely over my fic and think it's the most boring thing to ever bore, but I REFUSE to give up. First drafts are ALWAYS shitty! Just keep writing! I like my concept too, but OMG BORING FIC IS BORING. Lalalalaa.

Oh you can fix POV issues, no worries. That's what December is for!

It's been a weird writing experience for me so far. For Nano I usually start at the beginning of the story and just power ahead writing the story chronologically, but this year I'm jumping around all over the place, just writing anything I can think of from anywhere in the plotline so I don't feel stuck on one scene. Hopefully if I just keep churning it out then EVENTUALLY I'll be able to find some way to make it all work. Or maybe not. Maybe the whole idea was flawed and wrong to begin with and there's no way to save it.

But then I think, Meg, your main characters are a lesbian couple who get paid by the government to kill unicorns. There is no way this could possibly be a bad idea.
